New Mossberg Shotgun

2 Attachment(s)
First was the Cruiser now the Mossberg 500 Road Blocker:
If the muzzle break works, it would sure help. Probably took it off a Barrett. The first thing I did to my Mossberg Cruiser was add a collapsible stock.
A couple of shots without any kind of stock will do wonders for your firing hand and wrist!

I've got a 50420 special purpose and must say I'm pleased with it.I would like to fire that one with the barret brake on it to see what kind of differance it makes if any.

I've seen those before - not long ago. I never thought I'd see a muzzle brake on a shotgun, but a first time for everything.

I doubt it's very effective; in fact, I bet the only difference you may notice is due to the heavy chunk of metal added to the muzzle end, and not because of the actual function of the compensator since the pressure is so low.

Re: New Mossberg Shotgun

I've never given much thought to muzzle breaks and the exact physics behind their function........so let's give it some thought.

Agree the pressures are fairly low....someting like 15,000 PSI max for shotgun, where a high power rifle is more like 40,000 - 50,000 PSI.

But, keep in mind.....there is quite a volume in the gas produced even in a shotgun.....it is .72 caliber!

I know brakes are effective on even small hand guns in the sub 20,000 PSI chamber pressures and perhaps powder loads (often the same powder as shotguns) - and loads of only 5 - 10 grains of powder.

A shotgun can have between 25 and 30 grains of powder.....quite a bit....a 308 rilfe would be around 50 grains....

I think based on the mass of powder and still a fairly high pressure of between 12-15,000 PSI - the shotgun might have a fairly effective quantity of gas pressure energy to work with a brake.

Keep in mind that Energy = Average Pressure x Volume..... Also keep in mind that the total energy of a 12 ga load is roughly equal to a 308 rifle.

I'd bet shotgun brakes work pretty well based on some of the simple points covered above......all that said - I have zero first hand experience with muzzle brakes on shotguns...

I would replace the pistol grip with a Knoxx SpecOps Stock available from MidWayUSA. JMO --

You wouldn't need a muzzle brake if you had a proper stock on it. Pistol grip shotguns are for the movies, and that's it.

I have a mossberg 500 with the "cerrated" muzzle similar to what is shown here, the retention strap, and a telescoping stock....I'll post a pic for you someday.... (no camera at the moment) It is nice, I especially like the retention strap. Also it holds 8+1 of 12ga.

It looks funny but I don't care. I kind of like the non-conventional look.

$500 :111: for a Mossberg :111:$500 for a $200 Mossberg :111:NO WAY! If ya want to spend $500 on a shotgun buy a Reminton 870 Wingmaster!

Just looked at one of these in the funstore. Damn thing counts as a pistol here in Michigan. It was a cute little bugger but not worth it in my book. It just isn't practical.

Pretty sure I posted something similar, way back when the gun forum opened/started.

I bought a Knoxx Spec Ops breachers/pistol grip for my Remi 870 and I love it. However, it is for my HOME. I can take corners easily with it.
The main problem with me is, I trained extensively with handguns and nothing else. I am so used to them that I need any and all help when it comes to long guns, so it's the main reason why I got the breacher grip. Now, my Remi is my first line of defense, then my Sig.
Anyway, you can shoot the shotgun one handed, just like in the Knoxx promo video - it's worth the money if you can afford it, but not if you just want to look cool.

I also own the extended Knoxx spec Ops stock - I love it too.

A simple Remi 870 is tried and true. My only complaint is if you look at it it rusts............................................. ...............................................
But, rust is neglect so that's simply my own fault!:emotions16:

Pistol grip is fine with a vertical fore grip IMO. Would agree that shooting a pistol grip without one is harsh on the wrist with man stopper loads - specially if you're under 2 bills.

Also wouldn't pay that price.

That is plain silly. Ithaca made a Roadblocker back in the late seventies or early eighties. It was a 10 gauge though and it would stop a car, if you fired a slug into the engine.
